Sprung ensemble

We are all artists.

We want you to be interested in us.

You will like us.

It’s bigger than words. That’s why we dance.

We think of anything.

See Us. Hear Us.

Smell Us. Feel Us.

Know that we exist.

SPRUNG!! ENSEMBLE

The Sprung!! Ensemble develops original dance and theatre works through collaborative and disability-led processes. It is both a training program - focused on developing the skills and experience of emerging artists who are d/Deaf and/or disabled - and a professional performance ensemble who develop and present artistic works. The Ensemble are dedicated to developing a shared movement and dance practice, they have presented original works at Brunswick Picture House, NORPA, Plunge Festival, Northern Rivers Gallery, World Dance Alliance and finalists in the Australian Dance Awards.

The Ensemble provides critical development opportunities, pathways and presentation outcomes for new contemporary works, showcasing and supporting artists with disability and/or who are d/Deaf.

I do Mondays, Fridays. I like to work on strength and balance. My legs are strength. I’m really good at dancing. It feels good in my body. I just make it, with Ensemble and solo’s. I am the eagle, it came from an artwork. I am sexy, I am smart. I like my friends at Sprung!!, I like animals. I am a better, better man.

My interest in Sprung!! are my friends, my family. I want to make new work with new dance, new techniques, outside of Sprung!!, outside of Byron, the world, leadership. • Kane Shields

Hi, I’m Kane Michael Shields. I’m just a guy who loves to dance freely. I don’t take anything serious. I’m there to learn. I like to do contemporary, dark stuff, drag, I like to get clothes off, I like to get wild. Go hard or go home. If you judge someone with a disability, you’re like a blank canvas, no subject, no depth, you’re nothing. I love to dance, get down and crazy.

Performing makes me happy, strong and powerful. Feel like a super person, belong in dance, work hard. Watching you tube, when I see dance moves, I steal it. When I put music on I flow. I lead in dance. Aggressive in a good way. My dream is to be fabulous. A fabulous you tube dancer and do speeches in the street.

I can do a lot of different things, dance, act, poetry, improvising, choreography. I love listening to music (I’m a swifty). Living and working in the Northern NSW region. I love to dance because it brings me joy, it’s my perfect place, a moving shape always evolving. I am a multitude of thoughts and experiences.
